MUTCD / TRUM Update – March 2020

The March 2020 updates for the Queensland Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Traffic and Road Use Management (TRUM) manual are available on the Department of Transport and Main Roads website.

Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD)

Part 15 of the Queensland MUTCD has been harmonised to Australian Standard AS1742.15 and Part 1 (already harmonised) has been updated to reflect these changes in March 2020.

Minor administrative corrections have been applied to Part 2 (not yet harmonised).

Transport and Main Roads has committed to harmonisation at a national level. Harmonisation avoids duplicated and/or inconsistent content, minimises lag in applying national advice to local conditions and makes local practice more transparent.

Traffic and Road Use Management (TRUM)

The department has published two new Parts in TRUM Volume 3 Signing and pavement marking, being Part 9 Diversion route signage and Part 10 Signing and pavement marking for toll roads.

These new Parts incorporate Technical Notes TN113 and TN114 which previously provided temporary advice on these topics and have been withdrawn.

TRUM Volume 3 Part 8 Wildlife signing guidelines has also been updated to reflect the latest practices in this category.

TRUM Volume 1 Part 9, which supplements Austroads’ Guide to Traffic Management, has been updated to incorporate local response to national advice.

Minor administrative corrections have been applied to TRUM Volume 1 Part 10.
